Is AI reshaping accounting careers?

Built from the labor-market data I use to study layoffs, occupational mobility, and workforce transitions, this interactive research demonstration is intended to spark research ideas about layoffs in the AI era. It highlights an open question: whether AI is replacing accounting and finance positions and, if so, whether that substitution is contributing to broader waves of layoffs. The patterns shown here are a starting point for investigation, not evidence that AI caused any observed change.

Counts are person-events; a person may appear more than once. Departures occur in the WARN event quarter or the next quarter. Destinations use the next recorded position within four quarters; percentages include all departures. Unknown combines unclassified roles or employers, no next position, and incomplete follow-up. Small annual occupational groups remain pooled. O*NET titles describe recorded six-digit occupations, not changes in seniority. These records do not identify individual layoffs, unemployment, or AI effects.
